Mt Kenya National Park & Reserve is home to the tallest mountain in Kenya standing at 5199m above sea level, Mt Kenya. Due to the high elevation of the area the place has cold temperatures. The park has an extensive forest and a couple of lakes and tarns within the park, coming to around 20 in total. The flora in the area includes a montane forest at the heights of 2000m which are green lush forest mainly consisting of cedar and podo. As you climb past 2500m you will start to see the bamboo forest and patches of small trees and glades. Above 3000m to 3500m you will be met by patches of shrubs and short grass above that you will find moorland. At this altitude animals are quite rare to find.

Marsabit National Park boasts a crater lake known as Lake Paradise(which looks as good as the name suggests) .The park has a lush dense forest, ideal for nature lovers . The park is home to a variety of wildlife and bird species. It also once had a very huge tusked elephant called Ahmed who was also nicknamed the “King of Marsabit”. Ahmed was world famous and regarded as the elephant with the biggest tusk. A life size model of Ahmed can be found in Nairobi National Museum.
