Marsabit National Park boasts a crater lake known as Lake Paradise(which looks as good as the name suggests) .The park has a lush dense forest, ideal for nature lovers . The park is home to a variety of wildlife and bird species. It also once had a very huge tusked elephant called Ahmed who was also nicknamed the “King of Marsabit”. Ahmed was world famous and regarded as the elephant with the biggest tusk. A life size model of Ahmed can be found in Nairobi National Museum.

Attractions

The Crater Lakes

The iconic crater lake, Lake Paradise is found here. Breathtaking is an understatement when it comes to this lake. It is surrounded by the lush and dense montane forest which gives it some allure. The lake is located 10 km away from the Ahmed gate. Besides it, there are also two other lakes nearby including Gof Sokoorte Dika and Gof Bongole. Crater lakes are commonly known as Gof in the area. These lakes are home to numerous bird species.

Wildlife

The park is home to a variety of wildlife including elephants, buffaloes, lions , the reticulated giraffe , leopards, Grey’s Zebras and baboons. The elephants in this area are known to have huge tusks. The area also has a diverse birdlife with over 350 different species.

Singing Wells

Singing wells is cultural practice among the Samburu people where they sing to the animals while giving them water at the wells. This is indeed a sight to see and a chance to interact with the Samburu people’s culture.
