Aberdare National park is a park filled with vast moorlands ,waterfalls and dense forests that is sure to be a favourite for nature lovers. The place was originally called Nyandarua but was later changed to Aberdare after who was the president of the Royal Geographical Society at the time. The park is best experienced through the various hikes cutting across the various trails in the park.

Lake Nakuru National Park is a picturesque location dotted and surrounded by several hills. Its major attraction is Lake Nakuru which is famously known for having a high number of flamingos. The flamingos found here are the lesser and greater flamingos. The species of birds are over 300 and is a suitable bird watching area. The park is about a 10 minutes drive from Nakuru town if entering through the main gate.

Olorgesailie is found at the floor of the Rift valley and was once a lake basin that existed during the late Pleistocene about 200,000 to 100,000 years ago Olorgesailie is a prehistoric site most known for the large number of stone tools found on the site and it is by the the only place in the world with such a high number of stone tools found on site. Besides the stone tools, Olorgesailie also has a number of fossils of extinct species including elephants, zebras and hippopotamus that are dated to be as old as 1.2 millions years. Olorgesailie as a prehistoric site plays a major role in showing human activity across time from 1.2 million to 400,000 years ago. In addition to its historic significance Olorgesailie is a suitable bird watching site boasting the highest number of migratory bird species in Kenya. Olorgesailie also has camping grounds and a picnic site. Being near Mt.Olorgesailie one could also have a hike to the top of the mountain and back within a day.

Ruma National Park is mostly known as the last sanctuary of the endangered roan antelope. Another important animal in the park is the Rothschild giraffe which can be found in plenty .In Fact the park contains the largest population densities of the giraffe Rothschild giraffe in Kenya.The park offers a refreshing place for game drives with beautiful landscapes. The area is mostly a savanna and woodland thickets. Various wildlife that can be found in the area include the rothschild giraffe, the oribi antelope, Jackson’s hartebeest,serval cat, hyena, buffalo and leopard. Ruma National Park is named after the famous wizard Gor Mahia who lived near the park.

Marsabit National Park boasts a crater lake known as Lake Paradise(which looks as good as the name suggests) .The park has a lush dense forest, ideal for nature lovers . The park is home to a variety of wildlife and bird species. It also once had a very huge tusked elephant called Ahmed who was also nicknamed the “King of Marsabit”. Ahmed was world famous and regarded as the elephant with the biggest tusk. A life size model of Ahmed can be found in Nairobi National Museum.
