The Nairobi Gallery contains a vast collection of african artifacts such as clothing,jewellery as well as furniture some as far back as the 1800. Most of these items are part of Joseph and Sheila Murumbi’s collection. Joseph Murumbi was the second vice president of Kenya and an avid collector of African artwork and artifacts. Before being gazetted as a museum the building had some historical significance as it was used as a courthouse, office of the Provincial Commissioner, KANU’s Nairobi branch as well as the office of the Native mInistry throughout its lifetime. Besides being a gallery Nairobi Gallery is also an artist’s haven allowing artist to showcase their works from time to time

Joseph and Sheila Murumbi’s collection

This is a huge collection of African artifacts from across the continent. Joseph Murumbi was an avid private collector and the museum serves as a gallery to showcase his collection. The collection includes furniture,jewellery, postal stamps, textiles and artwork.

Point Zero

The point zero was a central location in which all measurements of Kenya were done. The measurements were done by cartographers and this location in particular was chosen due based on astronomical calculations. The point can be viewed in the atrium which has black and white tiled floors. The center of which is the Point Zero

Pioneer Art Gallery

The pioneer art gallery houses art pieces from both local and international artists. It serves as a space where these artists can showcase their artworks and reach a broader audience.

Colonial Safes

Some of the relics that the Nairobi Gallery holds from the pre-independence era are two safes. Two safes in particular are quite interesting since they have remained intact and have never been opened ever since the colonial government had left Kenya.
